Mieke Leenders started out mountain biking because she wanted a new way to travel and experience nature. She didn't plan on becoming an expert, but now she's glad she can offer some help. Why are you giving advice for MTB Insider? I first got into mountain biking as a new way to travel and experience nature. I had always been a keen hiker, but hungry to cover more ground while still keeping active, I decided to get a bike. What is your budget bike pick? In line with my desire to explore both countries and trails, my top recommendation for a budget bike is a cross country classic, the Giant Talon 29 series. What is your splurge bike pick? One day, I’d love to splurge on the Juliana Joplin. What's your favorite trail that you've ridden? My favorite trips so far have taken me to Playa Naranjo in Santa Rosa National Park, a challenging but rewarding ride and camping trip, and the canyons outside of my current town of Liberia. But the next time I have some more free time, I’ll head further inland to explore the Senderos Colón, and I aim to compete in La Ruta de los Conquistadores.
